Job Description

The Application Developer creates detailed technical specifications, develops application and system code, participates in code reviews and module testing, and supports ongoing maintenance. The position develops TIBCO applications, participates in design reviews, conducts code reviews, creates unit test plans and participates in testing reviews, and resolves moderate defects.  This position documents, reviews, and maintains components of software solutions for projects related to the support of varying Integration applications as needed.

Job Responsibilities

  • The Application Developer develops application and system code, participates in code reviews and module testing, and supports ongoing maintenance under the guidance of an Integration lead.
  • Evaluates detailed business, functional, and high-level technical requirements including recovery, security, and audit with assistance from the technical lead.
  • Develop/Design detailed technical components with high-level architecture
  • Participates and provides feedback in design reviews.
  • Complete component design documents on assigned projects
  • Develop code for intermediate modules, following documentation and development standards. 
  • Conduct timely structured code reviews to ensure standards and systems interoperability.
  • Create accurate unit test plans, conditions, and data. Participate in testing reviews.
  • Conduct basic levels of module and integration testing according to process standards. Track and resolve moderate defects.
  • Assists Quality Control (QC) personnel with functional/integration/performance tests.
  • Identify support issues and initiate action to resolve the problem. 
  • Provide technical assistance during production issues when needed.
  • Analyze and resolve problems within the assigned application stack.
  • Execute change management activities supporting production deployment to Developers, Quality Control Analysts, and Environment Management personnel.
  • Completes and delivers migration or change management form to above parties.

Job Qualifications

Applications Knowledge - Demonstrates the ability to apply major changes or develop new functions to the application. Demonstrates ability to work with Business users and customers in meeting their business needs. Able to interpret business data as it applies to the application. Troubleshoots common problems quickly and accurately.

Application Systems Architecture - Demonstrates an ability to understand the architecture of the systems directly related to work assignments.

Program Design - Demonstrates mastery of program design tasks independently and without support from others for moderate to difficult programs in various modes including batch and real time. Has conducted all of the tasks and activities required to complete the program design phase.

Program Documentation - Writes clear, concise and comprehensive documentation, such as computer program and systems specifications, product descriptions, operational procedures, etc. Incorporates accepted technical documentation conventions and uses graphics and other visual aids to assure understanding by the reader. Creates outlines and organizes thoughts before attempting to write a document. Edits and proofreads drafts before completing documents; adopts constructive critiques and integrates changes easily.

Program Testing - Has tested both batch and on-line programs of a complex nature. Has turned over to a production environment fully tested programs. Has written operational documentation to support of production programs. Has successfully tested enhanced programs and returned them to a production analysis.

Programming - Demonstrates the ability to carry out programming tasks with support from technical lead for moderate to difficult applications. Demonstrates the ability to work on simple applications independently. Well experienced in conducting all of the tasks and activities required to complete the SDLC of a project.

Thriving in Change - Possess a fundamental understanding of Thriving in Change as demonstrated by the ability to adapt well to changes in work assignments, policies, procedures and reorganizations, accept changes with a minimal loss in productivity, proactively talk through changing situations and promote transparency, anticipate the consequences of actions and deal with them effectively, and recognize that a positive outlook influences and motivates the attitudes and actions of others.

Education: Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent work experience;

- Minimum 3 years of application development experience.

- Prior insurance experience or specific industry designation preferred but not required;

- Prior knowledge of Tibco Business Works/Object Oriented language is preferred.

- Prior experience working with Oracle and other relational databases.

- Familiarity with EMS messaging

- Familiarity with XML and ability to read/write complex XPATH notation

- Knowledge of Git as code management tool preferred and Continuous Integration practices
