Job Description

The Lead Consultant is responsible for assisting Line Manager with the overall performance of assigned line of insurance. Develop, implement, and monitor Auto rating plan, risk management guidelines, programs, and procedures for line of business. Serves as a subject matter expert on moderately complex issues that require innovative and creative solutions.  Trains and coaches less experienced team members. Takes on ownership responsibility for key Product Management Deliverables related to the improvement of growth and profitability for the Auto line. Possible people management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
Primary Focus/Responsibilities:
• Subject matter expert for line of insurance, including coverage, rule and rate structure;
• Develop and Implement Risk Management, Pricing, Filing, and Product strategies using fact based decisions based upon a knowledge of  the market, which includes competitors, regulatory and legal environment, claims handling trends, and distribution channel / agent relationships;
• Immediate responsibility related to the above will involve the development of viable approaches to the successful growth and profit of the Auto line of business.  Potential examples would be to focus on fleet book segments of 5 to 10 power units and eventually 21 to 50 power units.  This will involve the research and development of a viable stance and capability as needed to involve User Based Insurance (Telematics) solutions to assist in the risk management and pricing of the Auto line;
• Analyze statistical, non-statistical, legal, and regulatory information to evaluate risk of potential market segments;
• Monitor the overall profitability including growth and retention of products to ensure consistency with product strategies, goals, and priorities;
• Monitor and analyze flow, loss, exposure, underwriting and premium trends for line of business to make corrective actions to improve growth and profitability;
Secondary Focus/Responsibilities:
• Build and leverage strong relationships with internal partners including State Managers, Field Sales, Underwriting, Marketing, IT, Compliance and Claims to form consensus on and move to needed actions
• Assure proper execution of regulatory/legislative practices for Product Management
• Prioritize and manage initiatives for assigned line(s);
• Develop, implement, and monitor appropriate levels and types of reinsurance as needed Support training efforts for assigned line(s) of insurance;
• Fill in for Line Manager as situations dictate.

Job Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College / University
• 5+ years direct Commercial Auto Underwriting experience, including the handling of fleet business  Experience with composite rating, loss rating, retrospective rating, and telematics a definite advantage  
• Strong business acumen, with a strong interest in external Industry environment and trends and ability to apply those to make informed decisions on rates, pricing and underwriting
• Strong qualitative and quantitative skills to support the application of sophisticated products, with multi-variate rating plan components
• Thinks critically, and actively shares opinions, even when contrary to conventional thought
• Detailed understanding of the business and rating plans
• Ability to dissect and manage data at a cellular level to optimize risk selection, market segmentation and competitive position
• Strong knowledge of competitor market conditions and ability to react accordingly
• Ability to articulate financial results and impact of strategy to senior management
• Basic project management skills
• Strong influencing skills, ability to work collaboratively and influence organizational thinking
• Strong presentation skills with the ability to communicate clearly to a wide variety of audiences
• Previous people management experience an advantage
• Intermediate Skills using Microsoft Office Suite (WORD, EXCEL ACCESS, PowerPoint)
