The purpose of the department is to enable continuous improvements in the performance of Allstate’s investment portfolios through financial planning, analysis, and management reporting on key financial and economic drivers.  The Finance and Planning department offers a supportive, diverse, team based culture. The scope of this job is to provide decision support, planning and forecasting and management reporting for Investments.

 

The individual will be responsible for:

 

In alignment with corporate goals, specific responsibilities for the Staff Financial Manager will include:

  • Oversight of the investment portfolio income statement close, including managing team timelines and priorities
  • FP&A representative in Investment Finance monthly/quarterly close related meetings, contributing thought leadership and subject matter expertise to decision making
  • Key business unit contact for investment portfolio financial statement close timing and results
  • Investment Finance lead for internal management reporting of monthly and quarterly results provided to senior leadership
  • Hands-on and complex analysis of investment portfolio results, including evaluation and summarization of detailed level data to communicate drivers of variances and trends
  • Reporting of progress toward overall Investment goals, requiring a thorough understanding of planned, forecasted and actual results
  • Participating in preparing presentations for Board of Director and internal committees
  • Participation in the Strategic and Operating Plan process
  • Management of staff, both direct reports and virtual team members
  • Management of team level projects, as assigned

 

The skills required are:
 

  • Financial reporting and financial statement analysis, investment focus preferred
  • Ability to understand, analyze and succinctly summarize financial results
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with various levels of management via reports, memos, and verbal communications
  • Strong leadership, organizational and time management skills
  • Works effectively in a team environment and independently
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work priorities and assignments and deadline driven

Job Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in financial analysis, accounting or internal management reporting experience, preferably in the Investments area. 
  • Prior experience managing a team of direct reports
  • Computer proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, with the willingness to learn new tools such as Access, SAP, Essbase/Hyperion
  • Bachelors Degree - Required (Major preference: Accounting, Finance or Economics), MBA and/or CPA/CFA a plus
