Job Description

To profitably grow or manage Encompass premium and market share in targeted markets and consumer segments, and achieve desired business results by developing, leading, managing and implementing effective strategies, processes and programs in the Independent Agency channel.



Job Summary

The Key Accounts and Alternative Distribution Director designs, develops, and directs the execution of strategies to maximize growth of Encompass through both Key Accounts and Alternative Distribution channels. Ensures the structures and processes needed to effectively deliver the business priorities of Encompass and their organization is in place.  Responsible for delivering business results and creating an inclusive and engaging work environment that drives employee performance and development. Demonstrates a broad level of influence across the organization, with their business partners, peer leaders and senior leaders.  Reports to the VP of Sales.


  • “Key Accounts” are currently defined as wide-reaching independent agency organizations with locations in multiple states. 
  • “Alternative Distribution” is currently defined as relationships with suppliers that deliver multiple insurance quotes from trusted insurance brands, allows prospects to find the best value according to their needs and connects them with independent agents.

Relationship Development

  • Develop short- and long-term relationship objectives and strategy to grow Encompass
  • Continually engage with industry relationships
  • Set relationship development guidelines (e.g., firms/ industries to target, capabilities needed, etc.)
  • Define the plan to execute on the growth strategy for this channel
  • Responsible for the recruitment and development of sales employees
  • Communicate strategy and plan to regions to execute recruiting process

  • Strategically builds and fosters relationships across functions
  • Sets strategic and operational parameters for collaborative efforts/teams with and across functional boundaries and directs sales activities
  • Presents business cases and influences others to take recommended actions
  • Sponsors and/or provides stewardship on initiatives

  • Takes risks and generates alternative ideas
  • Converts thinking of others or gains acceptance of complex ideas or new methodologies

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; 10 or more years of related experience
  • Numerous well established industry relationships
  • Proven track record for profitable sales growth
  • A deep understanding of all sales related functions
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to effectively communicate and present highly specialized terms and data in multiple formats and situations
  • Highly proficient negotiator with a proven track record of success
  • Experienced and effective coach and mentor of both individual contributors and leaders
  • Advanced ability to influence across organizational boundaries and at the executive level
  • Plan, implement, manage, and/or sponsor projects that are highly complex and/or large scale key initiatives using accepted project management standards
  • Applied experience designing, testing, developing and implementing new or enhanced distribution methods
  • Highly developed relationship management, interpersonal leadership and collaboration skills; experience building strong business relationships with both internal stakeholders and executives as well as external partners.
  • Advanced strategic and analytical skills; experienced at developing and implementing evidence-based business strategies and tactics
  • Advanced financial acumen
  • Agile and adaptable leadership approach; has the ability to effectively lead others in times of change
