Job Description

Allstate has an exciting opportunity for a Risk Manager within the Claims department! This position is ideally located in Northbrook, IL.


This role possesses advanced knowledge of risk assessment and control design for operational and financial risks, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX). Leads highly complex engagements to design and implement strategies for identification, measurement, control, and reporting of operational risks. This individual ensures controls are properly designed and documented for complex processes, including incorporating appropriate risk assurance and risk tolerances and best practices for reporting and sustainability.
Management within the function includes analyzing business risks and developing action plans to achieve business objectives; providing direct oversight of employees in the department; coordinating employee schedules and workloads; participating in performance reviews; providing coaching, mentoring and feedback; and participating in and making recommendations regarding staffing decisions.

 

Responsibilities

-Partners with technology and business experts to document risk and compliance issues and participates prioritization of Risk Management resources for remediation and response.

-Leads project teams to identify, measure, and remediate risks, including quantitative and qualitative analyses of risk impacts and likelihood, alignment with leadership and stakeholders on risk and response decisions, interpretation of leadership directives to calibrate appropriate tolerances, and design and implementation of highly complex controls and processes.

-Oversees efforts and methods for compliance monitoring; sets context and escalates to senior leadership when appropriate.

-Develops and oversees communications and training to Field compliance teams and Home Office on topics such as methods and practices, regulatory and SOX compliance, and internal controls.

-Leads and manages the identification, analysis, readiness and prioritization of new initiatives for deployment on Allstate risk and compliance technology platforms, such as Archer GRC.

-Influences Field and Home Office leadership to support new initiatives and manage operational change for new methods and practices.

-Reviews compliance and risk management studies done on other companies to maintain industry awareness and make recommendations for improvement.

-Serves as a subject matter expert on control design on highly complex regulatory compliance concerns, internal controls, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, and other company, state, and federal regulatory compliance policies and procedures.

-Provides input and support for changes to the regulatory compliance workbooks based on changes in regulations and control procedures.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and advanced training in related field preferred (accounting, auditing, finance)
  • Auditing experience preferred (internal or external audit)
  • Management/leadership experience preferred
  • Experience with risk and compliance monitoring tools, such as Archer GRC, is preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of operational risk and risk assessment methodologies, including complex control design and compliance testing methods
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with Sarbanes Oxley (SOX), control design, and project management
  • Advanced influencing and communication skills to advance strategies throughout all levels of the organization
  • Highly advanced skill in motivation, organization, training, coaching and facilitation of teamwork
  • Self-starter, creative and has a growth mind-set
  • Highly advanced knowledge of problem solving and preparation of complex reports for analysis
  • Highly advanced conflict management and problem resolution skills in managing internal and external customer relationships
  • Highly advanced problem solving skills to continuously improve business outcomes
  • Provides highly advanced individual decision making. Works within highly complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge in breadth and/or depth in area of expertise
