Job Description

Responsibilities of this new position include: 

  • Monitor and participate in the global convergence of accounting standards as well as the development of new accounting and reporting standards issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and Insurance Regulators;
  • Lead industry forums on technical accounting matters  through the company’s participation in   various industry groups (e.g., American Council of Life Insurers), and other avenues;
  • During development phase of new standards, lead business areas in identifying Allstate specific concerns and effectively convey those concerns to standard setters along with suggested modifications to address issues;
  • During development phase of new standards, lead business areas in the creation of reporting tools and metrics to measure the impact of the change and communicate the impacts to senior management;
  • Once standards become final, lead process of estimating impact of adoption and lead efforts to implement new standards;
  • Evaluate new complex investments for accounting and reporting implications (e.g., embedded derivatives, consolidation).  Work with investment managers in the evaluation;
  • Support Investment Department with technical accounting questions that arise related to Allstate’s approximate $80 Billion investment portfolio;
  • Play a lead role in the development, training and supervision of staff.

Job Qualifications

  • Must possess a CPA designation
  • 10-15 years of insurance or comparable financial services experience (in a supervisory role)
  • Must possess extensive knowledge of highly technical subjects such as accounting for financial instruments (including derivatives) with knowledge of life and property-casualty insurance a plus
  • Public accounting experience (or equivalent)
