Job Description

The Investments External Reporting team is responsible for providing timely and accurate investment information to support external filings made by The Allstate Corporation.


The External Reporting Investments Accountant is responsible for executing the day to day activities of the External Reporting team according to the controls in place.  This includes preparing basic schedules that support external filings made by the company and performing analysis to identify and investigate unusual trends. They are expected to manage their assignments based on prioritization and direction, and raise issues as appropriate.  The External Reporting Sr. Analyst is expected to execute processes and procedures per the team’s operational support documentation and identify when practice deviates from the documented process.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop / prepare schedules that support external filings made by the Allstate Corporation.  Examples of schedules prepared may include:
    • Net investment income summary (A1)
    • Investment yield analysis
    • Realized capital gains analysis (A3)
    • Unrealized gains and losses (B29)
    • Corporate segment cash flow statement
    • OCI reclassification and validation
  • Perform analysis (e.g., trend analysis, comparisons to prior periods, comparisons to expectation) on schedules that support external filings and work with other teams to identify / investigate unusual trends.  Modify / correct schedules based on findings, if any.
  • Prepare journal entries to support the monthly and quarterly close; troubleshoot issues as they arise
  • Own and be accountable for execution of responsibilities; timely raise issues with processes and schedules
  • Promote team culture and positively motivate colleagues to achieve optimal team performance
  • Identify and execute process improvements
  • Work collaboratively within the team and across the department
  • Pursue development and learning opportunities to advance skills
  • Prepare information and analysis to support external disclosures for Investments


Job Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance or Accounting or relevant experience
  • 0 to 2 years of Accounting/Reporting experience
  • Basic Microsoft Excel, Access and SAP skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing circumstances
