Job Description

The Architect-Director leads development of the core technology strategies to build and evolve a technology complex enabling effective execution of business operations, by ensuring alignment between business objectives and IT capabilities, current and emerging industry trends and innovative ideas to create sustainable differentiation and lasting competitive advantage. Leads the development of technology vision and strategies and establishes a blueprint and reference architecture in partnership with senior technology and business leaders of Allstate.


Provides guidance and direction to the team of architects involved in the development of business and technology architecture vision, policies and guiding principles. Interacts with senior leaders and conveys complex technology concepts, architecture pattern, strategies and solutions.  Is responsible to develop initial vision and ongoing adoption of the same across all relevant organizational parts of Allstate. Sets the strategic technology direction in support of Allstate’s business objectives as well as those of the AORs, ensuring that appropriate technologies needed to effectively deliver the mission of their organization are in place.


Lead the research, investigation and adoption of cutting edge technologies such that Allstate can create sustainable competitive advantage and differentiation in its products, services and go to market strategies.


Is accountable for driving a paradigm shift and shifting organizational culture to bring about design philosophy at a large scale.  Demonstrates a broad level of influence across the IT organization, with their business partners, peer group and senior leaders.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Professional Accountabilities:

  • Lead the development and continued enhancement of the technology vision, strategies, roadmaps for various technology and business domains that are relevant to Allstate’s current and future businesses.
  • Leads a team of architects, engineers and other roles across IT and business units to develop the appropriate technology strategies that shape the architecture, tooling and operations of Allstate’s computing complex
  • Ensure the relevant and current industry perspectives and trends are understood and accounted for in the aforementioned technology strategies
  • Engage with C-level executives in conveying and ensuring alignment of the said technology strategies
  • Leads a team of architects and engineers to develop the continuously evolving / ‘living’ target architecture blueprint
  • Ensures continuous improvement and evolution of governance constructs to keep abreast with relevant industries / markets such that Allstate’s computing complex remains current, optimal and ready for the emerging trends and future events
  • Leads and participate in governance processes such as Enterprise Architecture Council, Data Strategy Steering Committee etc
  • Provides thought leadership, ensure mindfulness in the adoption of strategies, architecture blueprints and other governance constructs in the decision making process throughout Allstate
  • Engages with senior leaders across relevant AORs and evangelizes the vision, strategy and principles with those stakeholders. 
  • Develop, lead and manage processes for ongoing review and assessment of the technology portfolio
  • Develop, lead and manage the processes in support of product life cycle management, including but not limited to product roadmap
  • Leads the development and implementation of practices and processes that raise organizational awareness, identify and address opportunities or risks related to topics such as but not limited to
  • Alignment with technology principles and policies
  • Ensuring responsible and optimal use of funds when implementing and using technologies to run business operations

People Management:

  • Accountable for creation of a safe environment that drives innovation and design philosophy within their organization. 
  • Follows behaviors that establish a role model and adopts the values of the organization.
  • Coaches senior leaders on personal development.  Leads organizational focus on talent development, succession management and building bench strength. 
  • Creates and leads change across multiple organizations in alignment with enterprise change initiatives. Uses personal influence to enlist employees and peers in implementing change.

General Management & Decision Making:

  • Is a technology thought leader. Develops complex ideas and organization strategy that have long-term, strategic impact and aligns with Enterprise direction.  Responsible for implementation of strategy including high level planning of work and resources across multi-year timeframe.
  • Leads multiple teams in achieving significant, complex assignments.  Creates structures and processes that provide oversight of budgets and delivery yet allow employees freedom of action.
  • Applies knowledge and efforts to diverse and complex situations, where alternatives are numerous, to drive business solutions on behalf of the organization.
  • Is highly proficient in the business of information technology with a demonstrated understanding of technology strategy and emerging trends in the industry.

Job Qualifications


Education: College Degree with technical study.


Professional Experience: 15+ year’s technical experience in architecture, design, and/or other influential IT positions and 10+ years of management experience; including leading leaders; should include accountability for all aspects of leading an organization including people processes, client/partner relationships, work processes and delivery of work products.


Technology Proficiency:  Broad and exposure and / or experience of 7+ years with inclusive of but not limited to, multiple architecture methodologies, modeling techniques, software development methodologies, computing platforms, programming languages and infrastructure technologies.
