Job Description

The Product Actuarial department at Allstate Benefits (AB) is responsible for actuarial related analysis and thought leadership related to AB product and financial management. 

This position will report within the Actuarial Product Development department of Allstate Benefits.  The Actuarial Analyst will support pricing, data analysis, product development, product implementation, financial modeling, experience analysis, and in force management projects within Allstate Benefits.  May also support other ad hoc cross-department business needs and projects as directed.  The Analyst will develop knowledge of actuarial practices, Allstate Benefits lines of business, and key procedures within the department as a foundation for future intermediate-level job responsibilities.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Gather and synthesize actuarial data relating to pricing, experience analysis, or product development

  • Use established objectives and procedures to gather and process actuarial related data
  • Quantify data as directed by actuarial management
  • Utilize available computer systems and sources in gathering data
  • Maintain actuarial databases and files as needed
  • Process data as directed, learning compliance with insurance regulations and laws

Develop actuarial knowledge and skills

  • Progress in SOA Exams
  • Advance actuarial knowledge by studying actuarial topics
  • Apply exam topics to work projects
  • Meet requirements of Allstate Financial’s Actuarial Career Program

Perform analysis of actuarial (and related) items and data

  • Gain knowledge of appropriate sources of data and when to use them
  • Review and test data for reasonableness and accuracy
  • Analyze and resolve problems/discrepancies as they arise in projects
  • Evaluate competitive industry data

Communicate and document information

  • Document problems, procedures and analysis of data
  • Create reports communicating actuarial data
  • Compose correspondence such as memos, inquiries, or responses
  • Collaborate within a team environment

Job Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • 0 – 2 years of work experience
  • At least one actuarial exam passed
  • Applies working knowledge of professional, regulatory and technical standards

Preferred qualifications:

  • Applied experience which demonstrates the following responsibilities:
    • Analyzing and manipulating data using SQL, Excel/VBA, R, or similar programs
    • Working on a team within a project oriented business environment
    • Analyzing complex business problems with ambiguous solutions and objectives
  • Previous actuarial internship or work experience within the financial services industry
  • Strong background in math, statistics, finance, or other quantitative subjects
