Job Description

The Financial & Reporting Analysis department at Allstate Benefits is responsible for developing and maintaining the company’s Strategic and Operating Plans, analyzing and controlling expenses both generated internally and through intercompany channels, and providing expense support and analysis for leaders throughout the company. The department must also help support profitable expense growth and/or reduction commensurate with the company’s rate of growth and overall scale. In addition to this, report and analyze the company’s financial results on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. This department reports both on a statutory and U.S. GAAP basis, in additional to monthly and quarterly reporting to the SEC.

The role of the Senior Financial Analyst is to perform the duties that ensure the department is on track with Strategic/Operating Plans, expense analysis, servicing company leaders in an expense capacity, and aid in developing analyses that will properly support expense decisions overall. This role reports directly to the Associate Manager of Financial Reporting & Analysis and works closely with that person to understand, support, and functionally execute the company’s overall financial strategy.  This role is responsible for performing day- to-day general ledger accounting, financial reporting and analysis for assigned functional areas, in additional to researching and resolving Business Unit(s) inquiries for assigned functional areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop the details of the Strategic and Operating Plans by cost center and cost element, including daily interaction with senior leaders to gather, analyze, and provide feedback.
  • Work across departments to gather input and understanding of their budgetary needs.  This includes analytical interpretation and input/suggestions regarding possible changes needed.  Responsibilities include detailed expense forecasting and working with department leaders to help them develop and understand their budgets. 
  • Responsible for performing the day- to-day general ledger accounting, financial reporting and analysis for assigned functional areas.
  • Research and resolve Business Unit(s) inquiries for assigned functional area
  • Analytical expense projects – these include staffing models, profit analysis of departments, identifying opportunities of expense savings or efficiencies.
  • Monthly expense analysis including explanations of variances to plan, larger or smaller than expected results, opportunities to gain efficiencies each month.
  • Month-end duties such as deferred vs non-deferred expense analysis, providing deferred expense data to the actuary department, maintaining ZDAC and expense allocation tables.
  • Responsible for performing the day- to-day general ledger accounting, financial reporting and analysis for assigned functional areas.
  • Research and resolve Business Unit(s) inquiries for assigned functional area
  • Preparation and submission of the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), Rating Agency, and Investor Supplements on a monthly and quarterly basis.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA in Finance preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience in finance or accounting required
  • Working knowledge of PowerPoint, Outlook, Word
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Very strong communication skills; both verbal and written
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to develop relationships across all levels in the organization
