Job Summary

In the face of technology disruption and increasing uncertainty, the CompoZed Labs team is leading a continuous digital transformation at Allstate to unlock new sources of growth and productivity. The mission of CompoZed Labs is to create accelerated value for Allstate’s customers and partners by delivering custom software using XP engineering best practices, lean product thinking, user-centered design principles, a mindset of experimentation and learning, and cutting edge cloud infrastructure and dev ops practices. We strive to achieve this mission by acting as stewards of lean and agile product best practices across all areas of Allstate.

CompoZed Lab Practice Leads are subject matter experts in practice domains that are typically represented on Agile teams in a CompoZed lab (Engineering, Product Management, and/or Product Design), and will be splitting their time between craft, coaching and practice leadership. The Practice Lead will work to ensure establshed lean product best practices are disseminated throughout the lab, and is accountable to continue evolving those practices based on the latest thought leadership in the agile product space. They will also help embed a lean product mindset at all levels of the organization by planning & facilitating exercises, workshops, and meetups to help evangelize the message of CompoZed within Allstate. The Practice Lead will ensure that all members of his/her respective discipline can participate in practice discussion, hone their skills and collectively work to build a practice culture that best serves the needs of a CompoZed Lab, its team members and stakeholders. 

 

This role will map to the HR-defined position of “ATSV - Product Manager - Exp” and will report to the CompoZed Lab Sr. Manager at the Mart.

Responsibilities

  • Be recognized as a thought leader and subject matter expert in lean/agile product practices, and serve as an evangelist for these practices across Allstate
  • Ensure agile product best practices are collected, analyzed and communicated out consistently across teams, and innovate on each practice area to support the needs of CompoZed Labs
  • Ensure that products are at the best state of readiness prior to kickoff, mitigating substantial risk for both stakeholders and product teams by leading / facilitating cross-functional workshops (scoping, inception, discovery & framing, re-inception, etc.)
  • Conduct team health self-assessments and sponsor/team check-ins to promote frequent communication and transparency to reduce friction from product teams and support teams in reaching optimal team health
  • Co-facilitate 1-day and 4-day Lean Product Workshops; help spread the message about CompoZed and lean product best practices throughout Allstate
  • Lead or facilitate lab-wide events (lunch & learns, lab retros, practice-specific meet-ups) to build community within and across teams and lab locations
  • Create and maintain key content that documents CompoZed’s processes and practices, and educate, coach, and mentor lab teams, stakeholders, and peers on these core practices
  • Identify and document innovative approaches that originate from CompoZed product teams, and help create and maintain structures that promote knowledge-sharing, practice alignment, and dissemination of new innovations to other teams and lab locations
  • Lead initiatives to educate CompoZed on strategic and emerging technologies and practices that are used in the Lab (e.g. PCF, Lean, etc.)
  • Coordinate with Practice Leads from other lab locations to ensure best practices from individual labs are disseminated to other labs whenever possible
  • Help foster a lab environment in which product teams are empowered to deliver business value quickly and iteratively
  • Work with Lab Leadership to help identify the best ways to measure and quantify relative practice competency and experience in team members

Job Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in one of the practice areas (e.g. Engineering, Product Manager, Product Design)
  • At least 1 year in a role at CompoZed in a related practice area preferred
  • Ability to thrive while working in a fast-paced and often undefined environment
  • Passionate about driving change with a healthy level of impatience
  • Demonstrates strong ability to manage by influence without having direct authority
  • Has a natural disposition toward collaboration
  • Demonstrates a clear passion for topics related to lean/agile product practices, digital product companies, etc.
  • Experience with a diverse set of technologies, approaches, and tools is ideal
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills—should be comfortable working with a variety of seniority levels
