Corporate Social Responsibility - Allstate Foundation Good Starts Young®

Within Corporate Relations, Corporate Social Responsibility develops enterprise-wide strategies that advance Allstate’s reputation and ensure the company is accountable for managing its social and environmental impacts. Programming focuses on creating strategic community involvement efforts, ensuring responsible business practices and delivering innovative social impact initiatives in the communities Allstate serves.  

As a Corporate Social Responsibility Intern on the Good Starts Young team, you will learn the fundamentals of our initiatives, which are founded on research that demonstrates well-designed, well-implemented, teacher-taught social and emotional learning (SEL) programs can promote students’ social-emotional development, behavior and academic performance. That’s why SEL is at the core of Good Starts Young. It’s why we partner with nonprofit partners like WE, Facing History and Ourselves, Junior Achievement and the Collaborative for Academic Social and Emotional Learning.

In 2017, more than 5 million youth participated in programs sponsored by Allstate Foundation Good Starts Young. Nearly 2 million of those youth participated in programs specifically designed to develop SEL skills. Our goal is to embed SEL programs in 25 percent of U.S. schools by 2021.

Candidates should have a deep interest and general understanding of communications and nonprofits, as well as demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to assume responsibility, prioritize their work and think creatively. Additional skills and experience include the following: 

  • Ability to assist in the execution and planning of communication strategies
  • Ability to develop a basic tactical plan with focus on timeline and audience needs
  • Prior nonprofit or corporate social responsibility internship experience 
  • Previous academic, extracurricular and/or work experience related to social responsibility 

Project Management/Administrative: Actively participate in project meetings from inception to delivery to understand deliverables, audience, timing, expected outcomes, and goals. Ability to organize project into discrete tasks, estimating and managing time required to complete tasks

Writing: Assist in creating internal and external communications that are aligned with Foundation priorities and messaging. Assist in developing creative messaging to effectively communicate with the enterprise. Creative and persuasive writing skills to prepare print material in approved format to meet communication objectives for audience

Building Relationships: Build and maintain relationships with CR team members and colleagues in other departments

Strategy & Planning: Assist in the execution and planning of communication strategies. Develop a basic tactical plan with focus on timeline and audience needs

Job Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Ability to organize and manage multiple work streams in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Experience using social media tools in a school or corporate environment, specifically creating a social media campaigns.
  • Ability to work well with business professionals of varying backgrounds, talents and management techniques.
  • Capacity to process detailed information quickly and synthesize into communication tactics that resonate with and engage stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of social responsibility trends and best practices preferred
  • Previous academic, extracurricular and/or work experience related to a nonprofit or foundation is preferred

Education:

We prefer candidates who are upper-level undergraduate students majoring in Journalism, English, Strategic Communications or Communications with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or first-year graduate students.


The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation, which includes a drug screen.
