Job Description

The underwriting department is responsible for providing effective risk management in support of our corporate goals and current risk tolerance. This includes applying account level underwriting (Industry, persistency, claims, etc) and individual application level underwriting (health history, product pricing, compliance standards, etc).

The Specialist functions as a Coordinator and oversees the clerical/mail staff assuring all unit work is being processed timely, proper customer service is being given on the phones if applicable, assist with questions as needed and makes sure everyone in the unit is following company/unit policies and procedures. The Coordinator ensures cases are set up with the approved products and approved limits. Maintains the work flows of the Underwriters to ensure a timely turnaround.    

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages the AIM workflow process for the underwriting team by reviewing AIM entries and assigning work items to underwriters
  • Shares the responsibility of calls coming into the underwriting area, and conducts herself/himself in a professional and courteous manner
  • Develops reports around workflow, TATs vs SLAs and other reporting on team efficiency or as requested by management
  • Reviews quote requests to ensure that basic information needed for underwriter review is there before forwarding to an underwriter 
  • Responsible for handling case set up and case number assignments
  • Creates illustrations for the underwriters upon request
  • Works special projects as needed
  • Assigns work to the underwriters through the AIM system
  • Assigns case numbers for groups as needed
  • Sets up cases in the GI/CGI Tool and notes the Quick Sheets on behalf of the Underwriting team
  • Processes cases in the Home Office Tool
  • Coordinates requests between team members
  • Maintains the various spreadsheets and logs that are kept to track business
  • Assists with requests sent to the group emails by Allstate agents and independent brokers
  • Runs experience reports for analysis
  • Compiles data for analysis by the underwriters
  • Answers various questions and concerns from the field 

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2+ years experience in the insurance industry
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Customer service phone experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to adapt in a production environment
  • Ability to manage work flow as needed
