Allstate Insurance Company has an exceptional career opportunity as a Claims Business Analyst in Northbrook, IL!


Under general supervision, this role is responsible for providing analytics developed from data, staffing and expense analysis. They will develop annual operating plans, working with Claims Leaders and partnering with Protection Finance, and will have expense tracking and reporting responsibilities. This is an entry-level position and will work with other Business Analysts to develop data extraction, manipulation and analysis skills and use these skills to solve business issues as a team. They will have opportunities to work with Leaders and subject matter experts in Claims and Protection Finance providing analysis to solve business issues. They will develop a deep understanding of data extraction methods using Business Objects and SQL and will use SAP for expense planning and reporting. The individual is capable of working independently, prioritizing the individual's own responsibilities, and managing the individual's own workload. The individual is also gaining experience and consistently meets band level behaviors, production, quality and/or customer service goals.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develops inputs for use in analytical and/or modeling efforts and performs validations throughout all phases
  • Integrates data across various internal source systems
  • Using a variety of tools and/or programming languages (e.g.SQL, Tableu, Business Objects), builds basic reporting, data visualization and/or analytical self service tools in order to share data and output of analytical and/or model efforts
  • Develops basic analyses based on operational and financial data
  • Quantifies the year over year performance of one or more business segments, evaluates the impact of potential operational changes, assists in the process of predicting future outcomes, and participates in the design of new approaches and operational methodologies
  • Performs a variety of basic to moderately complex analyses to identify trends and outliers that are statistically significant
  • Works with senior peers to identify how the results may contribute as inputs to models
  • Supports on-going Field work with basic and moderately complex custom analysis on data trends
  • Applies accounting concepts such as reconciliations, actual versus plan analysis, accruals and prepaid expenses as a baseline to conduct analysis to identify outliers and pull out key information
  • Follows established procedures and processes for data analysis and reporting, and review or modify these for appropriateness
  • Develop an expense business plan by analyzing expense trends, contractual expense commitments and working with business partners on key initiatives that have expense impact


Job Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical area of study including Finance, Mathematics or Accounting or equivalent experience
  • Experience in application of data and analysis preferred
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience in data acquisition and manipulation applications (MS Access, Business Objects, SAS, SQL Developer) a plus
  • Experience with visualization packages (PowerPoint, Tableau)
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Teamwork and interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to work successfully on cross-functional teams
  • Ability to thrive in both structured and project-oriented work environments
  • Self-starter with motivation and discipline to complete work on time with limited oversight
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
