Job Description

Allstate Insurance company has an exciting opportunity for a Claims Data Engineering Manager in Northbrook, IL (this position could be virtual).

This manager-level role is responsible designing and executing on a comprehensive data management strategy and for developing and overseeing a holistic strategy for delivery of standardized reporting to all levels of the Claims organization.  This individual is responsible for leading a team that coordinates with ISG and other third party data providers to deliver data that is readily available, easily accessible, accurate and complete.  Additionally, this individual will have ownership of the Claims Dashboard and help define the method for which all other standardized reporting shall be distributed.   

Job Responsibilities:

Coordinates with ISG and other third party data providers to deliver data that is readily available, easily accessible, accurate and complete.

  • Responsible for data governance, including, but not limited to, documentation of source system mapping, ETL, joins, metadata, and metric definitions
  • Development and execution of comprehensive data strategy that considers the current and future needs of the Claims organization, and considers other enterprise data initiatives
  • Development and oversight of comprehensive delivery strategy for standardized reporting produced by the Reporting & Visualization team
  • Ownership of Claims Dashboard build and future enhancements
  • Responsible for ensuring data adheres to corporate governance standards
  • Collaborates with leaders across various disciplines to understand and prioritize data needs
  • Ensures credibility and reputation of high quality data
  • Maximizes individual and team capabilities and builds talent pipeline of future organizational leaders
  • Creates a productive and supportive work environment of highly engaged employees who create highly satisfied customers (i.e. business partners)
  • Provides thought leadership in the area of data management and data governance
  • Understands data availability and quality standards (enterprise wide)
  • Monitors staffing levels and workloads and recommends changes as appropriate
  • Participates in strategy sessions, idea generation and feedback sessions
  • Owns multiple relationships with other AORs on strategic projects to benefit the enterprise
  • Manages complex vendor relationships
  • Manages a staff of 4-8 consultants
  • For remote candidates, up to 25% of travel maybe required, primarily to the Home Office, in Northbrook, IL

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in related field preferred and extensive experience in Data Architecture is required
  • Leadership experience is highly preferred (this position will have 4-8 direct reports)
  • Experience with design or build of ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) processes and tools preferred
  • Experience with data warehousing preferred
  • Experience with design of Business Intelligence platforms and/or tools preferred
  • Experience with Agile process methodology a plus
  • Experience thinking ‘outside the box’; open to new ideas and exhibits a strong analytical mind
  • Ability to interact effectively, and coach others on interacting effectively, with internal or external customers and act with empathy
  • Applies knowledge of insurance policy, coverage, and regulation
  • Applies advanced knowledge of claim processes, policies, procedures, claim systems, coverage, liability, damage estimating, and/or settlement, and adherence to applicable legal compliance standards
  • Applies knowledge of analytical procedures to reconcile, manipulate, and recognize patterns of data
  • Applies highly advanced ability to leverage learned technical skills in support of team objectives
