Job Description

Specialty Operations – Involuntary Administration - Reinsurance Recovery Team is responsible for collecting Automobile Personal Injury Protection (PIP) benefit payments once they exceed the retention from the state reinsurer.  This group completes activities to support the performance objectives required to collect outstanding reinsurance recoverable balances.

 

Lead PIP Reinsurance Recovery activities involving a wide range of diverse work assignments over multiple state run reinsurance programs.  Responsible for interpreting, analyzing, evaluating, reporting and managing (including coverage alignment, investigation, claim appropriate evaluation, reserving and reporting) complex claims that alleges re-insurable PIP coverage. 

 

Oversees the day to day activities of the PIP Reinsurance Recovery team to complete activities to support the performance objectives required to accurately and timely submit request for reimbursement (RFR) and process cash receipts.  Oversee system testing and implementation of approved recommendation for corrections and process improvements.  Also, accountable for human resource duties, including resource management, hiring, performance management, talent development and compensation planning.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supports the team, department and division goals and exhibits initiative and quality of work in order to reach such goals.  
  • Collect and review departmental productivity, staffing levels and workloads
  • Responsible for performing quality reviews and SOX Level 1 and 2 reviews identifying areas of weakness and reporting finding to management.
  • Work with management to analysis recoverable and non-recoverable claim expenses
  • Work product is completed accurately; reports are appropriately detailed and thorough; claim files are set up properly: diary is kept current
  • Routinely and effectively manages staff workload: work is done in established timeframe
  • Stays current on significant legislative changes and developments in the insurance industry and applies such knowledge to the day to day reinsurance collections.

 

Manage Human Resources

  • Provides managerial oversight of junior staff members as they perform collection activities.  Responsibilities includes:
    • Reviewing initial RFR and RFR prior to submission to reinsurer
    • Reviewing weekly cash clearing entries to ensure proper allocation of cash cleared
    • Monitor aged billing to assist in the collection efforts
    • Provide technical support and advise to junior staff members
    • Review and approve direct reports’ work product

 

  • Coordinate or head projects as assigned by management
  • Provide written and verbal reports to management
  • Perform assigned accountabilities in accordance with established departmental guidelines to include evaluations, authority levels, reinsurance collection guidelines
  • Develop and administer training programs for junior staff

Contribute to the formulation of departmental policy and procedure

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or 3+ years related work experience
  • Advance procedural analysis, documentation and communication skills.
  • Advance knowledge of company installed computer software and hardware for submission of request of reimbursement preferred.
  • Advance knowledge of PIP Reinsurance Recovery department policies and procedures.
  • Advance skills in RFR submission on processing systems.
  • Advance knowledge of company and department operations, organization and structure. 
  • Good verbal, written and telephone communication skills.
  • Advance time management (organization, priorities) skills.
  • Ability to multi-task while consistently meeting required deadlines
  • Ability to assist leadership in achieving business unit objectives
