Job Description

Allstate's Federal Legislative & Regulatory Affairs practice group represents Allstate in Washington, D.C. on key federal public policy issues in order to improve the Company’s business results and corporate reputation. The office serves as the liaison between the company and Congress, as well as various federal government agencies. The Federal Legislative and Regulatory Affairs practice group is responsible for advocating and advancing legislative and regulatory public policy positions at the federal level, for developing and executing strategies and programs to create or maintain a favorable national legislative and regulatory environment, and for fostering positive and effective ongoing relationships with federal government officials. This practice group works to secure the enactment of favorable legislation and regulation and to defeat legislation and regulation adverse to the Company.

 

This opening is for a current law student to work as a part-time Law Clerk

 

The job will have the following responsibilities:

  • Basic legal research using internet databases and systems such as Westlaw
  • Attend Congressional hearings
  • Take notes and prepare reports on Congressional hearings
  • Prepare lobbying position papers
  • Basic legal writing of memorandums, etc.

Job Qualifications

  • A current 2L or 3L Law student with high energy
  • A self-starter who enjoys working in a team environment
  • Ideal candidates will have outstanding research and writing skills along with effective oral communication skills
  • Ability to work well with others in a small, tight-knit team environment
  • Extremely conscious of meeting legal deadlines
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, online legal research
  • Preferably prior legal experience in a clerkship
