Allstate's Network Services Engineering team creates network and infrastructure solutions that integrate business needs and technical demands to support the optimized delivery and availability of enterprise applications.  We deliver technical solutions that are critical to all areas of the Allstate business, providing foundational stability for the enterprise.

Job Description

Responsibilities
Allstate Network Services Engineers are responsible for interacting with applications and infrastructure teams to develop technical solutions that focus on delivering the availability, performance, and security of enterprise applications.
 
The Network Services Engineer is responsible for understanding the impacts of network behaviors on applications and applying delivery topologies and technologies in a manner that best suits the business needs and objectives.
 
The following describe the specific areas of accountability:
• Consult with application designers and developer to create application delivery solutions that enhance the availability and operations of enterprise applications
• Create standardized deployment models, components, and scripts for execution of new solutions
• Develop, plan, and implement complex changes to the platform or applications supported by the platform
• Automate or orchestrate network technologies to improve consistency of delivered service and speed to market
• Recognize and recommend improvements to existing system design and operations to enhance the overall delivery of the services
• Communicate technical concepts clearly with the extended team to aid in the planning of solutions and gain adoption of services
• Resolve highly complex or critical incidents involving multiple enterprise services and components
• Collaborate with operations teams to address availability concerns and create proactive monitoring for incident avoidance
 

Job Qualifications

Qualifications
The specific skills and competencies required for the position include:
1. F5 Platform Administration
a. Strong understanding of high-availability system configurations and design options
b. Experience configuring and managing system interfaces and addressing
c. Fluent in TMSH and CLI for system configuration
d. Experience executing system patches, software version updates, and system backup restoration
2. F5 Local Traffic Management
a. Strong understanding of local traffic management concepts including virtual servers, load balancing methods, persistence, and health monitors
b. Experience in the development and use of iRules and Data Groups
3. F5 Global Traffic Management
a. Knowledgeable of general DNS principles and operations
b. Strong understanding of Wide IPs and LB Methods for high availability and load distribution topologies
c. Familiar with GTM health monitoring and LTM Integration (iQuery)
d. Experience with zone and record administration in DNS Express
4. F5 Application Policy Management
a. Experience with clientless and client based remote access VPN topologies
b. Familiarity with remote access VPN topologies and options for mobile clients including Per-App VPN and automatic connection profiles
c. Strong understanding of authentication and single sign-on protocols and technologies (Active Directory, LDAP, Kerberos, SAML)
5. Application protocols and topologies
a. Strong familiarity with application deployment topologies and flows
b. Deep understanding of common applications protocols, including HTTP and LDAP
6. Enterprise Routing and Switching
a. Familiar with routing protocols (OSPF/BGP) in an enterprise environment
b. Knowledgeable of enterprise data center solutions and technologies
7. Scripting and Development Skills
a. Uses scripting languages, including Python and PERL, in a system administration capacity
b. Experienced with REST APIs for system configuration and analysis
8. Education
a. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (additional work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement)
b. F5 Certified BIG-IP Administrator or Technology Specialist certification
c. Cisco Certified Network Associate or Professional certification
9. Experience in the following:
a. 3+ years of experience in an enterprise IT environment in a technical operations, engineering, or consulting capacity
