Job Description

The Automation Engineering Portfolio Lead is a trusted and strategic partner to the senior leaders of Allstate’s Technology and Strategic Ventures organization.  The Portfolio lead is expected to develop of a strategic vision for an automation portfolio.  He or She should provide clear direction and priorities in order to align multiple software engineering teams to executing against the defined vision.  This leader also recognizes and removes barriers, creates enthusiasm and a desire to succeed within the teams, accurately assesses the strengths and development needs of team members.

 

The Portfolio Lead is also responsible for defining portfolio level KPI’s, aligning development teams, communicating with stakeholders on goals and progress, epic prioritization across multiple teams, and effectively communicating return on investment for a given portfolio of work.

Job Description

  • Lead all the related portfolio management activities within their given portfolio, including providing coaching and directing the activities of the product managers aligned to their portfolio.
  • Inspire trust and confidence in partners through strategic and diplomatic handling of relationships with senior business and IT leaders with the goal of building, planning, assessing, and prioritizing, the portfolio of IT work.
  • Develop and maintain a broad understanding of the business objectives and customer impacts of the portfolio and an in-depth understanding of the challenges and opportunities that Allstate aims to address through digital solutions.
  • Collaborate with strategic partners to develop and implement prioritization criteria in support of the most valuable portfolio work.
  • Provide recommendations on product selection and the priority of work in the pipeline by facilitating experiments, gathering business value insights, and aligning work to strategic objectives.
  • Partner with portfolio leaders and ATSV Finance to support the annual financial planning process and provide ongoing financial monitoring and forecasting to enable portfolio investment decisions.
  • Review and provide recommends on resource sourcing strategies based on resource capacity and allocation analysis.
  • Design, develop, analyze, and report on critical portfolio metrics that provide insights into overall portfolio health ensuring that complicated information is delivered effectively and efficiently.
  • Understand and champion existing processes while continually investigating industry best practices and challenging the status quo to support continuous improvement.
  • Collects staff performance data against desired outcomes

  • Manages day to day work of employees by monitoring budgets, expenses and scope and facilitating project delivery and support for complex products of critical importance.
  • Influences direct reports, clients, service providers and peers to successfully deliver on business commitments.
  • Adapts communication approach for audiences at multiple internal and external levels

Job Qualifications

  • College Degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of experience in roles involving budgetary responsibility including forecasting and trending financials.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and facilitation skills for communicating at all levels (employees and leaders); including strong presentation skills
  • Strong analytical and communication skills with ability to develop executive level communications
  • Comfort with ambiguity and able to independently drive resolution of issues and challenges
  • 3+ years experience working in an agile environment
  • 3+ years of management experience in which one or more of the following occurred:
    • Demonstrated high competency in the execution of multiple large projects
    • Demonstrated competency in strategic thinking and leadership, with strong abilities in relationship management
    • Gained experience in managing resources to meet goals across multiple projects and competing priorities
