Job Description

Marketing Analytics, Research and Administration (MARA) provides fact-based analytics, research and insights to drive and influence decision-making that supports short-term growth and long-term growth platforms for marketing, customer experience and new products and services.  The Marketing analytics team is responsible for using data to make decisions, which includes the development of frameworks and models that are leveraged to optimize marketing programs, drive efficiency, and create action from analytic insights.  Our mission is to use data and analytics to decode how Allstate brand, audience development, message, content, and execution vehicles are all working together to engage prospect and current customers.  We are a results-driven, passionate, and a curious group of analytic professionals that are developing marketing analytic solutions for our interconnected world.

This role is responsible for the design of complex data science/data infrastructure projects and proof of concept business solutions for users in analytics and data science. This person works directly with business users and data scientists on needs and tactical solutions. This role will shepherd new big data tools and automation work tracks for data science and analytics from inception and prototyping to fully developed solutions and transition to Allstate technology. This role requires close integration and partnership with the business/data science team and a high degree of business acumen in order to output the best technical solutions. He/she also actively leads other team members on project based work. Serves as a department subject matter expert on research solutions to support corporate goals.

  • As department expert, provide direction to leadership or AOR partners on technical solutions.
  • Be comfortable on either side of the traditional data science-data engineering boundary in order to
    • Develop new ideas and initiatives and create an environment that supports innovation and process improvement.
    • Utilize a multidisciplinary approach to data science problems combining technical expertise, data science knowledge, and business knowledge
  • Lead business and research data science solution development. Serves as a central point for communication and coordination.
  • Oversee / execute the development of new concepts and proof of concept designs.
  • Take loosely defined data science and analytic business needs and bring them from ideation to working pilots / deliverables.
  • Fluency in parallel processing/programming, software/programming languages and technologies (Python, PySpark, Hadoop, Hadoop streaming, Hive, SQL, Oracle, R).
  • Develop the data infrastructure required to support needs of predictive modeling and analytics.
  • Ensure development of test plans and scripts, preparation of test data, reconciliation of data sources, and execution of functional tests.
  • Lead & develop technical teams in a business environment.
  • Mentor and grow team members in a business technical environment.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a field such as Computer Science, Data Architecture, Engineering, Physics or equivalent skills
  • 3-5 years of related experience or equivalent skills & ability
  • Technology fluency with analytic tools/applications (Hadoop, Oracle, Hive, PySpark, Spark, SQL, Python, R)
  • Experience with Python/R based machine learning tools
  • Ability to learn new technologies and help integrate them successfully into the work flow
  • Ability to deal with an array of data sources, all in different forms and willingness to use an array of tools or methods to create a solution
  • Expertise in UNIX/Linux
