Job Description

The Vulnerability Management Researcher will be responsible for supporting the monitoring, collection, reporting, and assessment of impact for vulnerability related data from external and internal sources. The vulnerability researcher is skilled at quickly identifying newly discovered vulnerabilities and exploits and performing detailed analysis as to how it may impact the organization.  This candidate must have a strong desire to continuously learn and stay one step ahead of the threats.

Responsibilities
• Continuously monitor external and internal sources for new vulnerabilities and exploits relating to technology Allstate and its brands leverage in business operations.
• Perform a deep technical analysis of vulnerabilities and associated exploits, assess the impact to the organization, and produce consistent and informative reports to guide remediation actions.
• Share vulnerability intelligence with other security teams including threat intelligence, security operations, threat hunting, and risk management.  Incorporate shared knowledge to improve vulnerability research and reporting.
• Provide detection guidance to other team members or additional security teams in a timely manner.
• Develop and maintain a strong understanding of technology in use at Allstate and apply to vulnerability research to ensure relevant and useful reports.
• Be able to successfully partner with other security and IT professionals to assess potential impact from vulnerabilities specific to Allstate’s environment, and determine and implement mitigating controls.
• Identify and recommend appropriate measures to manage and remediate vulnerabilities and reduce potential impacts on information resources to a level acceptable to the senior management of the company.
• Build strong partnerships with technical teams to promote best practices for managing vulnerabilities in an agile manner and within cloud solutions.
• Be a champion for vulnerability management and information security including broadening awareness and use of the team’s services, education of security best practices and integration with other business areas.
• Providing mentorship and support to teammates with regard to vulnerability assessment, communication/rapport with other divisions and various levels of leadership, technical expertise, and career development.
• Continuously improve and mature research and reporting processes.
• Participate and lead new projects as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
 

Job Qualifications

Qualifications
• Bachelors and/or Masters Degree or equivalent experience in Information Security, Engineering, Computers Science, or related field
• 2-5+ years experience in vulnerability management or related information security field
• Strong experience analyzing exploits related to commonly exploited software. (e.g. Adobe products, major browsers, MS Office, etc.)
• Penetration Testing experience desired
• Strong familiarity or participation with common vulnerability & exploit tracking/collaboration circles (e.g. Bugtraq, exploit-db, SANS ISC, etc.) or threat intelligence circles.
• Strong familiarity with independent research as it relates to cutting-edge vulnerabilities (e.g. OSINT collection, vendor subscriptions, etc.) and lab experimentation.
• Familiarity with researching exploit black market and dark web forums.
• Strong understanding and commitment to methods of responsible disclosure of vulnerabilities.
• Familiar with industry standard security best practices and vulnerability management processes
• Advanced experience with vulnerability scanning tools (Qualys preferred) and other vulnerability management tools.
• Experience with detection and signature development a plus.
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills; enjoys puzzle solving.
• Demonstrated ability to participate in cross functional teams, including offsite, remote and offshore resources
• Experience working in very large enterprise environment with diverse teams.
• Effective written, verbal communication skills. Ability to tailor communication style to audience at hand
• Ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical resources
• Self-directed, works with minimal guidance, and recognizes when guidance needed
• Demonstrated ability to stay abreast securing evolving technology such as cloud and mobile computing.
• Strong programming experience preferred, as it relates to proof-of-concept exploit code. (e.g. C/C++, assembly, debuggers, Java, javascript, ActionScript, scripting languages, etc.)
• CISSP, GCIH, GPEN, or other industry certification or expected completion of certification within 1 year of hire.
