Job Description

The User Experience Design (UXD) organization is a multi-disciplinary group responsible for applying knowledge of human-centered design methods, human-technology interaction and industry best practices to drive useful and usable design solutions.  The organization designs user interactions and experiences with devices, systems and services that provide an overall positive, engaging and productive products and service experiences.  The UXD organization in Arity serves the varying customer and end user experience and design needs across Arity’s focus areas within the transportation ecosystem.  It is comprised of individuals with skills including UX architecture, product design, content, visual design, design and usability research and creative technology that come together to design delightful B2B and B2C experiences.

 

Job Summary

The User Experience Design Director will be responsible for driving the growth of a best in class UXD team. The position requires exceptional analytical, creative, leadership, relationship and consensus-building skills, and proven ability to think strategically in an evolving environment. The successful candidate will have experience leading UX Design teams and projects in both Agile Scrum and in Agile XP. This person is a driven self-starter, a problem solver, and someone that loves creating remarkable interactive product and service experiences. This leader will be looked to for inspiration, leadership and creative genius and will be responsible for attracting, developing and retaining talent, and ensuring quality and effectiveness of the design output.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design vision, direction and strategy for Arity across various B2B and B2C focus areas including (but not limited to) Consumer Solutions, Insurance Solutions, Shared Mobility Solutions, Automotive Solutions, Financial Solutions and Government Solutions as well as broader Arity Platform technologies that stretch across these solution sets.  
  • Align and oversee teams behind work-streams and create the motivation and passion to deliver first-in-class experience design.
  • Providing thought leadership by contributing subject matter expertise in the areas of human-centered design, user experience best practices and online and technology-focused user behavior. 
  • Oversee team development of an interaction and design pattern and standards library and influence all levels of leadership to promote standards adherence governance
  • Exert significant influence with colleagues and staff as well as engender trust and inspiration across different disciplines (Architecture, Visual, Content, Research, Strategy, Technology)
  • Demonstrated experience building, managing and growing relationships with senior level executives
  • Motivate and encourage people through relevant ongoing recognition and create a culture of recognition within the team
  • Focus on exceptional customer service and drive innovation to create an atmosphere that supports new ideas and initiative
  • Strive for effective communication that results in teamwork, diversity of thought, shared knowledge, and ideas; maintain a culture of inclusion and respect
  • Manage relationships and provide design oversight with outside design agencies and contractors as appropriate.
  • Keep up to date in field by monitoring consumer trends, attending workshops, joining professional groups and mentor others in the Design profession
  • This position is part of the Arity Leadership team.

Job Qualifications

  • Four year degree (Master’s in HCI preferred)
  • 12 or more years of hands-on experience in a digital/technology design leadership position
  • Proficient knowledge of prototyping tools 
  • Experience working both client-side as well as agency side (strongly preferred); Start-up experience highly valuable
  • Demonstrable track record of business success in past 6-18 months
  • Possess a flexible skillset that can be applied across variety client relationship and/or business situations
  • Noted in field; Pushes craft; demonstrates, cross-office influence and broad thinking
  • Thrive on change and continuous improvement; Deal effectively with ambiguity, change, and adapt appropriately to a range of situations; 
  • Demonstrate and foster a sense of urgency, strong commitment, and accountability while making sound decisions and achieving goals; 
  • Proven leadership and strategic ability with excellent client relationship skills
  • Possession of expert written, oral communication and presentation skills
  • Must be highly motivated and a passionate people leader
