Job Description

A Corporate Relations Director is primarily accountable for client services, strategic communication counseling, external relationships, media and/or communication delivery, as well as managing shared service agreements.  This role ensures strategic, targeted communications are developed to the satisfaction of business partners and senior leadership.  As a Director, you will actively participate in developing the department's strategy to build and protect Allstate’s reputation, and financial plan.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Thinking

  • Leads, challenges, anticipates and takes risks in formulating strategic communication
  • Develops long-range fully integrated strategies and identifies long-term impact of initiatives
  • Contributes to senior-level conversations guiding strategic direction of the business unit or corporation
  • Develops long-range strategic direction of communication efforts supporting the corporation, business unit and department
  • Is accountable for ongoing assessments of agreed upon strategies recommending shifts, changes in direction and responsiveness to marketplace issues

 

Strategic Counseling

  • Ability to position Corporate Relations as a strategic enabler for the corporation
  • Maintains a comprehensive understanding of business goals
  • Exhibits a skilled ability to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) of the business unit and company, and develops strategic recommendations to help  achieve objectives
  • Takes initiative to present creative solutions addressing issues and opportunities across all company assets
  • Takes a systems approach and demonstrates leadership in identifying integrated solutions to contribute to overall management of resources within the corporation

 

Creative Thinking and Problem Solving

  • Ability to leverage knowledge and experiences to develop solutions that are effective in influencing stakeholders’ attitudes, beliefs and behaviors
  • Leads problem-solving efforts on behalf of corporation, business unit and the department with primary focus on removing barriers within the organization to achieve results
  • Offers non-traditional ways to improve communication effectiveness

 

Teamwork / Collaboration

  • Leads cross-functional initiatives to achieve business results
  • Serves as a catalyst to drive actions, behaviors and dialogue across the enterprise
  • Works with Officers and Senior Leadership to convey a consistent message across the enterprise

 

Project Management

  • Locates, maintains and uses resources to achieve results
  • Influences the work of the department to ensure all initiatives and strategies are supporting the client and company in achieving business objectives

 

Leadership / Development of Others

  • Mentors team members 
  • Masters human resource functions such as recruitment, selection and training, and performance management
  • Anticipates future departmental requirements and identifies skills and capabilities needed
  • Ensures full participation from all levels of the department in the creative thinking process
  • Identifies opportunities both within the department and externally for client interaction – with the goal of developing client interaction skills of all team members, e.g., bring less experienced team members to client meetings
  • Ensures diverse assignments or opportunities for all team members to build interpersonal, project management, consulting, and communication skills
  • Ensures opportunities for all team members to acquire business, industry and company knowledge
