Job Description


This position is for a Software Engineering Manager in allows prospects and customers the ability to get more information about Allstate’s products and services.  As part of the team, we are looking for an experienced Application Engineering Manger to assist us with further enhancing and developing the This individual needs to provide engineering thought leadership, technical strategy of product design, maintenance and development, contribute to the engineering backlog, and resolve overall engineering impediments.


The Engineering Manager of will also be responsible for personnel management, coaching, talent development.  The Application Engineering Manager directs a team of Developers, System’s Analysts, and Business Analysts leveraging SCRUM and SAFe best practices. They are also responsible for staffing / hiring and budget management.


The Engineering Manager will develop and practice a range of capabilities (but not limited to): analytics/management intelligence, internal/external partner management, business partner/ product owner satisfaction/experience, communications, quality and continuous improvement.


Job Responsibilities


  • Establishes engineering thought leadership / technical vision, direction, and specific objectives for team efforts; allows freedom to accomplish objectives.
  • Models and creates an environment of accountability for direct reports and peers.
  • Sets and executes team strategy, including objectives plans and policies for area of responsibility so as to develop and deliver innovative solutions and systems in support of Enterprise goals.  Communicates strategy to the team so they understand their role in achieving the established goals.
  • Analyzes long-term impact of new or anticipated strategies and contributes to Allstate business and functional strategy.
  • Initiates and implements continuous improvements in all areas of IT responsibility.
  • Directs / guides resources to plan, build, and run technology-based solutions consistent with Allstate’s implementation methodology.
  • Manage teams that produce large, complex programs which are highly visible and critical to the business.
  • Budget and manage resources – both human and financial.  
  • Career development for direct reports
  • Conduct meaningful talent management practices with direct report coworkers, including timely and honest performance feedback, assessment of potential, and career planning.
  • Mentor and coach direct report coworkers and ensure their professional development through continuing education and participation in domain, trade, or industry affiliations/associations.
  • Develop a positive relationship with the business partners / product owners and be willing to have difficult conversations as necessary.
  • Assemble and deliver ongoing business partner and intra-departmental communications, including status updates, and/or presentations. Adapts communication approach for audiences at multiple internal and external levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skill required.


Job Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or related field.
  • 10 years’ experience in client facing, delivery, and business analysis and design roles. Minimum 5 years Management experience leading and managing 10+ resources. Minimum 3 years experience using agile/scrum methodologies to iterate quickly on product changes, developing user stories and working through backlogs.
  • Experience in executing in a SAFe FW (Scaled Agile Framework)
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated thought leadership through problem solving skills with an understanding of the customer experience.
  • Experience in managing costs, schedules and budget-to-actual financial forecasting and reporting.
  • Experience in managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously in a semi-matrixes organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to support the needs of the project team and internal stakeholders, while holding team members accountable. Ability to identify and remove barriers to progress.
  • Excellent written and verbal and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate across the company and departments at all levels.
  • Experience in web based software development.
  • Experience with working/developing Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery model a plus.
  • Experience with working/developing in Angular,JS .NET/C#, CSS, HTML AJAX, JAVA a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple simultaneous efforts across the organization.
