Job Description

               

As an Architect-Sr Manager Emerging Business, one contributes strategic vision to the organization and integrates a broad range of ideas regarding IT architecture. The Architect-Sr Manager is recognized across the organization for IT architectural expertise, influencing and motivating other team members, and is sought as a resource for resolving the most complex IT architectural problems. The Architect-Sr Manager provides leadership on the most complex architecture projects involving multiple disciplines and other business areas, interacting, influencing and presenting to Vice Presidents and Senior Vice Presidents.

 

An Architect-Sr Manager, Emerging Business is a mature architect with an expansive background who delivers future vision and transition roadmaps, technical solutions, team leadership and guidance across a wide range of technologies and software development methodologies with the focus on enabling a variety of business domains. In this role, one is expected to lead an organization within the IT Department that likely consists of several individual teams.  At this level, the Architect-Sr Manager sets the strategic direction for their organization in support of the business objectives of the company, ensuring the structures and processes needed to effectively deliver the mission of their organization are in place.  They create a work environment that enables their employees to be their best and deliver on their accountabilities.  They are personally accountable for leading organizational change, delivering business results by working across the organization and development of employees.  They demonstrate a high level of influence within their own organization, with their business partners, peer leaders and senior leaders. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and professional leadership over large or complex initiatives where multiple architectural disciplines are involved. Execute governance over solutions developed by architects.
  • Consult on the application of reference architectures and serve as subject matter expert with contextual knowledge of the business model.
  • Provide thought leadership, innovative ideas, and drive toward partnership at the table.  Identify opportunities to enhance the web/mobile architecture. Create and articulate the case for change by highlighting the potential business/customer benefits.
  • Collaborate with clients and partners to define technology migration strategies and approaches.
  • Influence clients and partners to prioritize for enterprise benefit and risk reduction and adopt technology solutions that leverage existing patterns, practices and reference architectures.
  • Leverage internal and external benchmarking of emerging technologies, industry innovations, and competitor technology positioning trends to define new or refresh existing strategic architectures.
  • Identify and manage risks, opportunities, compliance issues or other architectural concerns.
  • Work with strategic vendors and partners to review and influence product roadmaps, strategies, and plans to ensure alignment with Allstate needs, both current and future.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with all levels of employees by creating an environment of safety and innovation within their organization and across peer groups
  • Identifies and proactively removes barriers to cooperative effort between teams and departments

Job Qualifications

  • The Senior Emerging Business Architect provides strong leadership in architecture, design, and development across a wide variety of applications and platforms. 
  • This person guides technology decisions, and develops future state architectures and roadmaps that effectively support Allstate’s various Emerging Business strategies.
  • This role works closely with the Director- Emerging Businesses, other Chief Architects, senior leadership within Emerging Business, and Global Infrastructure and Security organizations. 

Experience

  • Education: BS or MS in Engineering
  • 12+ year’s technical experience in architecture, design, and/or project management.
  • 5+ years of management experience; should include accountability for all aspects of leading an organization including people processes, client/partner relationships, work processes and delivery of work products.
